Diabetic Foot Care—Why It’s Important
If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, foot problems are often a common issue.
Diabetes can cause foot complications due to damage to nerves and reduced blood circulation. Stay ahead of complications with our proactive team at Rose Park Podiatry.
Here’s how diabetes can impact your feet:
- High blood sugar levels can lead to damage of the nerves (neuropathy) which can lead to a loss of sensation in your feet
- Injuries are more likely to be unnoticed which can lead to more infections
- Reduced circulation means that injuries to your feet also take longer to heal
Simple things you can do to care for your feet:
- Inspect your feet! Regularly check for injuries, cuts, scratches, or signs of anything out of the ordinary such as infections
- Wash your feet and maintain good feet hygiene
- Moisturise your feet to prevent dry skin (but avoid moisturising between your toes, as this can lead to fungal infections)
- Wear comfortable, supportive footwear and adequately fitting footwear
At Rose Park Podiatry, we can provide advice and guidance and help solve diabetic foot problems as they arise.
